In the Sewing Room and the Garden from From My Carolina Home

SELF CONTAINMENT SALE from Sew Fresh Quilts

The whole world seems to be going into self containment.

What can we do?  Pray. And help our vulnerable family and neighbours.

I am fortunate to have my family at home with me. My childrens' university and college classes are cancelled - for now. And our province is under a declared statement of emergency.

What does that mean?

I am staying home and sewing, which is my goal on any regular day.

And I am visiting my mom more regularly. We spend most of our time working on jigsaw puzzles. And chatting. I have encouraged her to stay at home. She ...

SHOP HOP Quilt Along - INTRODUCTION from Sew Fresh Quilts

Most of the snow has melted away from our neighbourhood.

But the view out my sewing room window was FROSTY!!!

As you can see in my SHOP HOP Baby quilt sample, the SHOPS all feature frosty, snow covered roof tops. The same snowy fabric is used throughout the quilt on the roof tops, windowsills and doorsteps.

When I shared the news of my recent finish and upcoming quilt along SHOP HOP, I had a lot of people asking me about the backing fabric that I used. It was a black and white print remnant I picked up from Ye Olde ...

Each block represents a SHOP, set in a wintery scene.

The Baby quilt uses the first two blocks in the pattern.

I quilted organic wavy lines using my walking foot ...

Family Sewing Retreat and Shoofly Pie Recipe from Georgia Girl Quilter

Our family sewing retreat was the first week in September and I was the lucky host this year. This was our 7th year and everyone had an awesome time sewing, visiting, advising, shopping and completing projects. There are 5 of us....4 sisters and our mother and we live in different states...Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma...and rotate homes each year.

We have our retreat banner and everyone contributes to the yearly goodie bags. Cooking responsibilities are rotated daily and we watch quilting tutorials during our lunch time breaks. Each year we learn what works best, making our retreat ...

ON A ROLL from The Proficient Needle

I think I've finally found my groove again, just in time to pack up my sewing stuff for our annual move south for the winter!

Several years ago, I attended a shop hop and collected all the block kits from each shop (there were only 7 shops).  They had selected a theme, and colour scheme for the blocks, but one didn't follow the rules.  The 7 blocks sat on my design wall for many years, and this year I decided that I had to move them along.......

I had used the oddball block in another project, so I ...
